Snättringe SK national team runners 2025
Autumn is usually the time of the year where most orienteering nations select runners to be part of their national teams. Check here which of the Snättringe runners did make it in to a team and what ambitions they have for the next season.
Following Snättringe SK runners got selected for a national team:
Simon Hector, Utvecklingslandslaget - Sweden
Joschi Schmid, U25 - Switzerland
Elia Gartmann, Junior Team - Switzerland
Peleg Mitzafon, National Team - Israel
Sahar Eshel, Junior Team - Israel
What are the goals of these runners for next year?
Simon Hector got selected for the Utvecklingslandslaget, the swedish development team, that aims to keep runners close to the A-Team. Make them better and hopefully some of these runners will take medals on the championships later:
"My big goal for 2025 is making it to the team for WOC (World Orienteering Championships) in Finland in July. I have been reserve om spot for WOC both 2021 and 2023 so somehow it feels like it's my time 2025, but I know that the competition in the Swedish team is fiercer than ever. My hope is to be injury free and continue with good training during the winter, then I might have a chance to make it.
I also aim to run the World Cup on home ground in Idre Fjäll in June. I have good memories from the World Cup there in 2021, so I hope to be there and get the chance again. It would be very nice to see many Snättringe faces in the crowd if I would be running, so I hope to see you all there as well!"
Joschi Schmid got selected for the swiss U25 team. Which has a similar approach as the swedish development team.
"My next year will be very exciting, as I will be making the step from the juniors to the elite. Everything there is one or more steps faster, more precise and more serious. For me, this means that I have to improve in these areas. I am motivated to work on my physical capacity in particular. I'm not setting myself any ranking targets, as my own improvement is the priority, and then I'll see what's possible at the selection races and Swiss championships."
Elia Gartmann got reselected for the Junior National Team of Switzerland. It will be his last Junior year. Since summer he faces some problems with his health. So no training was possible the last months: "My main goal for the next season is to qualify for the JWOC in Italy and fight one week for the top spots. And because this years Jukola was my favorite race of the year, I‘m also really keen on attacking an important leg in this big Relay next season for the Snättringe squad. But unfortunately the first step to achieve those goals, is to get back to normal health, because I‘m suffering from glandular fever (körtelfeber) for quite a while now. Next to orienteering I’m hoping to pass all exams at the university where I started to study this autumn."
Peleg Mitzafon will compete for the Israeli National Team.
"My biggest goal for next year is the WOC in Finland. But in overall I would like to improve my skills at Nordic terrain as much as possible. And of course I'm looking forward running the big relays with Snättringe!
As for the Israeli season, it starts in November and the highlight will be the Israeli championship in the beginning of March."
Sahar Eshel is again going to compete for the Junior National Team of Israel. It will be his last year as a Junior.
"My goals for the next year:
• improve my results at JWOC and to have the best Israeli achievement at the JWOC (Editors note: until now they are from Peleg with 28th in Sprint, 24th in Middle and 24th in Long).
• take a medal at the Israeli orienteering championships (M21)
• improve my results at the athletics and to sub 15 at 5000m and sub 31 at 10,000m"
Bonus:
We also have some more runners that might and hopefully will represent their country next year at an Event.
Jekabs Janovs, Latvia. What do you aim for: "In the spring there will be selection races for Idre WC, and I hope to qualify for it. Most probably I will not focus on sprint World cups, meaning that the spring will be the most important part of the season."
Brais Pineiro, Spain. How about you?: "2025 is extra special because A) Some of the Spanish team test races for the world cup in Idre will be held in the region I’m from (Galicia)
And B) The national team for WOC will be selected from the official test races in Finland!
So it’s going to be quite special to get to run in Galicia and Finland while aiming for both competitions!"
We wish you all the best for the next season and that your dreams will come true!
